Saturday evening, November 1, 2003, 7:00 p.m 'til Midnight
Here's how it works.
Bring your computer.  This includes the tower, the keyboard, the mouse and monitor.  Your computer should have plenty of free hard drive space and a working CD-ROM drive, preferably less than three years old, the faster the better (at least 32x). Notebook users, you've got it easy!  Just bring your notebook!
Don't forget your headphones so you can sample the music if you wish.
You must bring at least TEN compact discs from your personal collection of music.  Pop, rock, classic rock, classical, jazz, country -- we don't care, as long as it's either interesting or good to the ears of at least five people on the planet.  You will NOT BE RIDICULED.  Trust us.
Mark your discs!  CDs will be flying around all evening and we don't want you to lose any.
We will provide a place for you to set up your computer.  Most PCs will be in the basement and living rooms, but if they end up in the kitchen and out on the deck, that's fine too.
Mingle.  Trade CDs with your fellow partygoes and rip (digitally extract) the tracks off the CDs, saving them as MP3 files on your hard drive.   That's it!  Grab all the music you can!  You can burn your own CDs later with your CD-RW drive.  (You do have one of those don't you?)
Fred and Christine will provide the hors d'vours and technical assistance.  The best program to use for ripping is MusicMatch 8, which is free and Fred will gladly install it for you while you're there.  Or, you can download it right here and install it yourself before the party.  MusicMatch will, if you're on the Internet when you're ripping tracks, automatically identify the CD and name your MP3 files by song names as you go.  It will even dump them into folders by artist and album name.  Awesome!  Fred will provide you with a network card if you ask for one when you R.S.V.P. (see below).   We can accommodate tons of wireless connections to Fred's fast Internet account.
The first three partygoes who R.S.V.P will NOT have to bring their monitors, FRED WILL PROVIDE YOU WTIH ONE.  And -- the four partygoers who R.S.V.P  and committ to bringing at least 25 discs will not have to bring ANYTHING, FRED WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A COMPUTER.  (But bring a blank CD so you can burn your files.)
If you want Internet access during the party (highly recommended) you must bring $25.00 for the wireless network card.   Notebook users, you're on your own -- Fred recommends that you get a wireless PCMCIA card at Microcenter on Metcalf.
When you R.S.V.P, include your "wish list."  It can be in any format you like.  You can specify certain CDs, artists, or genres.  We'll publish the wish lists anonymously before the party.
Come on out and join us!  It's the underground way to share files, invisible to the RIAA's radar!  No lawsuits to worry about!  Screw the bastards!
